Triumph Motorcycles has expanded its modern classic range in India with the launch of the Triumph Bonneville T40, T40 Black and Bonneville T4. The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black are priced at ₹2,79,999, while the Bonneville T4 is priced at ₹2,54,999, with both prices being ex-showroom Delhi.

With the Triumph Bonneville T40, the company is clearly targeting riders who want the character of a classic British motorcycle without giving up contemporary technology.

The pricing puts the new Bonneville models into an interesting part of the Indian premium motorcycle market, where buyers have several retro styled options from brands such as Royal Enfield, Honda, Jawa and Harley-Davidson. Current launch coverage also confirms the ₹2.80 lakh price for the T40 models and ₹2.55 lakh positioning for the T4.

Classic Bonneville Design in a Smaller Package

The biggest attraction of the Triumph Bonneville T40 is its design.

Triumph has retained several elements that have defined the Bonneville family for decades. The motorcycles feature a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, round headlight, long mudguards, traditional spoked wheels, twin rear shocks and a peashooter style exhaust.

The design is heavily inspired by the proportions and styling of the Bonneville motorcycles associated with the 1960s. Two-tone paint schemes, hand painted coach lining, classic rubber knee pads and the three-bar Triumph tank badge further strengthen the heritage theme.

The round LED headlight gets a distinctive daytime running light signature, while the engine itself has been styled to remain an important visual part of the motorcycle. Brushed aluminium engine covers and machined cooling fin details add to the premium appearance.

The T40 gets three colour combinations: Aegean Blue with Fusion White, Meriden Blue with Tangerine Orange and New England White with Jet Black.

The T40 Black takes a darker approach with Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black, along with blacked-out engine components and gloss black aluminium rims with contrasting steel spokes. The Bonneville T4 is available in Phantom Black, Carnival Red and Competition Green.

350cc Engine Tuned for Bonneville Character

Powering the Triumph Bonneville T40, T40 Black and T4 is a liquid-cooled 350cc single-cylinder TR Series engine.

Triumph has developed a dedicated engine tune for the Bonneville models, with the focus placed on accessible performance and stronger torque delivery lower in the rev range.

The engine produces:

SpecificationTriumph Bonneville T40
Engine 350cc, single cylinder
Maximum power29 PS at 7,000 rpm
Peak torque31 Nm at 5,500 rpm
CoolingLiquid cooled

The engine uses a revised cylinder head and a dedicated Bonneville tune. Triumph says the focus is on strong low end torque, smooth throttle response and a distinctive exhaust character.

Launch coverage also reports that the engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a slip and assist clutch, adding another layer of everyday usability to the new Bonneville platform.

Modern Electronics Meet Classic Styling

This is where the new Triumph Bonneville T40 becomes particularly interesting.

The T40 and T40 Black get a four inch full colour circular TFT display that has been integrated into the traditional instrument design. Riders can even select a Heritage Mode that gives the display an analogue inspired appearance.

The technology package includes smartphone connectivity, full map navigation, phone controls and music controls. The Triumph Navigation App also supports route planning, waypoints, saved destinations and GPX route imports.

The T40 gets five riding modes, consisting of Road, Rain, Eco and two customisable modes. These modes alter throttle response, traction control and ABS settings according to riding conditions and rider preference.

The T4 takes a simpler approach with a colour LCD display, turn-by-turn navigation, three riding modes and phone connectivity.

Cornering ABS and Traction Control

One of the biggest talking points of the Triumph Bonneville T40 is its rider assistance package.

The T40 and T40 Black feature lean sensitive Optimised Cornering ABS and Optimised Cornering Traction Control. Cruise control is also offered, a feature that should make the motorcycle more comfortable during longer highway rides.

Triumph has also equipped the motorcycles with full LED lighting, self cancelling indicators, Emergency Deceleration Warning and a USB-C charging socket on the T40 and T40 Black.

For a motorcycle built around traditional Bonneville styling, the level of electronic equipment is notable.

Comfortable Riding Position and Accessible Ergonomics

The new Bonneville models have been designed around a relaxed riding position. The handlebar and footpeg arrangement creates an upright posture, while the long bench style seat gets generous cushioning for both rider and pillion.

Seat height is 790mm, while Triumph offers an accessory low seat that reduces it to 770mm. Ready-to-ride weight stands at 195kg.

A centre stand is standard and should make parking, cleaning and chain maintenance easier.

The combination of a relatively accessible seat height and relaxed ergonomics should make the Bonneville range appealing to riders who want a premium classic motorcycle for everyday use rather than only weekend rides.

Triumph’s 400 Series Continues to Grow

The Triumph Bonneville T40 is the latest addition to Triumph’s expanding 400 series family developed with Bajaj Auto.

The platform already includes the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Tracker 400, Thruxton 400 and Speed T4. Triumph says the wider 400 series has sold more than 1,80,000 motorcycles across more than 50 countries.

The Bonneville name gives the platform a completely different character. Instead of positioning the motorcycle purely around performance or adventure, Triumph is using its heritage to attract riders who value design, brand identity and the classic motorcycle experience.

A New Entry Point to the Bonneville Family

The arrival of the Triumph Bonneville T40 is significant because the Bonneville name has traditionally been associated with larger capacity motorcycles and a distinctly premium ownership experience.

Triumph says the objective was not simply to create a smaller Bonneville, but to retain the design details, finish and character expected from the name while making the experience accessible to more riders. The company developed the new motorcycles with Bajaj Auto as part of its wider strategy for the growing lower capacity motorcycle segment.

That approach could make the T40 particularly interesting in India, where the 350cc and 400cc motorcycle categories continue to attract buyers looking for premium styling and everyday usability.

What Makes the Bonneville T40 Interesting?

The Triumph Bonneville T40 brings together three things that do not always come together in the same motorcycle: authentic retro styling, accessible engine performance and modern electronics.

The teardrop tank, spoke wheels, twin shocks and peashooter exhaust make it immediately recognisable as a Bonneville. At the same time, the TFT display, navigation, riding modes, cruise control and cornering rider aids give the motorcycle technology that is far removed from the original Bonneville era.

With the T40 and T40 Black priced at ₹2,79,999 and the T4 at ₹2,54,999, Triumph has also created multiple ways for buyers to enter the Bonneville family. The T40 models bring the full technology package, while the T4 offers a simpler interpretation at a lower price.

For riders looking for a modern classic with genuine British motorcycle heritage, the Triumph Bonneville T40 could be one of the most interesting new motorcycles to arrive in India’s 350cc and 400cc segment this year.
