MG ADAPT Platform Unveiled as India’s First Multi Powertrain New Energy Vehicle Architecture

The Indian automotive industry is steadily moving beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to electrification. Recognising that customers have different driving needs, JSW MG Motor India has introduced the MG ADAPT platform, India’s first Multi New Energy Vehicle architecture that supports multiple powertrain technologies on a single modular platform.
Unlike conventional vehicle platforms designed around a single propulsion system, the MG ADAPT platform has been engineered to accommodate Electric Vehicles, Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Range Extender Electric Vehicles. This flexible approach gives MG the ability to develop future models that suit a wider range of customers while accelerating India’s transition towards cleaner mobility.

What Makes the MG ADAPT Platform Different

The biggest highlight of the MG ADAPT platform is its flexibility. Instead of building separate architectures for different powertrains, MG has developed one intelligent platform that supports multiple new energy technologies.

The platform supports:

  • Electric Vehicles or EV
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles or HEV
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles or PHEV
  • Range Extender Electric Vehicles or REEV

This approach enables faster product development, greater manufacturing efficiency and the ability to respond quickly to changing customer preferences.
MG has also confirmed that one electric vehicle and one plug in hybrid model based on the platform will debut during FY 2026 to 2027.

Engineered for the Next Generation of Mobility

The MG ADAPT platform has been designed to improve almost every aspect of vehicle performance.

According to MG, the architecture focuses on:

  • Longer driving range
  • Faster charging capability
  • Better efficiency
  • Improved safety
  • Stronger performance
  • Superior driving refinement

This makes the platform future-ready while ensuring it can evolve alongside upcoming mobility technologies.

Advanced Hybrid Technology at Its Core

One of the biggest engineering highlights of the MG ADAPT platform is its integrated hybrid technology ecosystem.

  • The platform combines:
  • Dedicated hybrid engine
  • Dedicated battery system
  • India’s first 10 in 1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit
  • World’s first Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission

Together, these components are designed to improve efficiency, reduce energy losses and deliver a smoother driving experience.

Intelligent Energy Management System

The MG ADAPT platform also features an Intelligent Energy Management System that automatically selects the most efficient driving mode depending on road and driving conditions.

Four Automatic Drive Modes

  • Pure Electric Drive for silent city driving
  • Series Hybrid Drive where the engine generates electricity for the motor
  • Parallel Hybrid Drive where the engine and electric motor work together
  • Engine Direct Drive for efficient highway cruising

This intelligent system ensures the vehicle always operates in the most efficient mode without requiring driver intervention.

Why Range Extender Technology Matters

One of the standout features of the MG ADAPT platform is its support for Range Extender Electric Vehicle technology.
Unlike conventional hybrids, an REEV always drives the wheels using the electric motor. The petrol engine works only as a generator to recharge the battery whenever required.
This delivers an electric driving experience while reducing range anxiety during long distance journeys.
As charging infrastructure continues to expand in India, REEV technology could become an attractive option for customers who want the benefits of electric mobility without worrying about charging availability.

Strengthening MG’s New Energy Vehicle Strategy

Over the last few years, MG has introduced several segment-first products in India, including the Hector, ZS EV, Gloster, Astor, Comet, Windsor, Majestor, Cyberster and M9. The introduction of the MG ADAPT platform now serves as the technological backbone of the brand’s future New Energy Vehicle portfolio.
The platform also reflects MG’s strategy of offering customers the freedom to choose the powertrain that best suits their driving needs rather than pushing a single technology.

MG ADAPT Platform Signals the Future of Intelligent Mobility

The MG ADAPT platform is more than just a new vehicle architecture. It represents a shift towards flexible and intelligent mobility solutions that can adapt to changing customer expectations and evolving technology.
By bringing EV, HEV, PHEV and REEV technologies together on one modular platform, JSW MG Motor India has laid the foundation for its next generation of New Energy Vehicles. As India’s automotive industry moves towards cleaner mobility, the MG ADAPT platform could play a significant role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation.
